Community

As a company founded with the aim of giving back and helping the community, we run the Mainframe Book Club, which was featured in the IBM Let’s Create podcast. This initiative is also one of the key reasons why our founder, Andy McCandless, was nominated as an influential Mainframer in 2025.

The Mainframe Book Club podcasts are a series of interviews with both Mainframe and non-Mainframe technology experts who share insights to help you grow your skills. The Book Club has spoken with professionals in a variety of roles from around the world, and these interviews highlight the resources necessary to support smooth career transitions. Topics include soft skills, recommended books and resources, and web-based forums.

To help you quickly identify the skills required for a specific role or task, we have compiled a spreadsheet of recommendations from the guests of the Mainframe Book Club. You’ll find everything from books and LinkedIn contacts to other valuable resources.

You can download the latest Excel spreadsheet packed with advice below, for your safety we have turned off all hyperlinks.

How to use:-

  1. Name & Topic are Filters – You can click on the small box to see only the entry you would like to see either by name or by topic, if you prefer you can click the box and choose all and you will be able to see all of the guests and their talks.
  2. If possible we recommend viewing the spreadsheet on a large monitor / laptop as there is a lot of information captured from the guests to help you.

The winning move is to join our Mainframe Community and become part of War Games 1983 an ethical business aimed at giving back to the mainframe community by providing help and assistance to all.
